ST. LOUIS –Esse Health has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Million Hearts Initiative as a 2014 Hypertension Control Champion for its success in helping patients control their high blood pressure.   Groups recognized achieved hypertension control rates of 70% to over 90% for their adult patients.  Only 30 groups across the country received this recognition.  Esse Health is the only group to be recognized in Missouri.

Nearly 1 in 3 Americans has hypertension.  Only half have the condition under control, meaning they are at greater risk of developing heart disease or stroke – 2 of the leading causes of death in the U.S.  Million Hearts® is a national initiative that has set a goal to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. To participate in the Initiative, participants shared verifiable high blood pressure control data and highlighted successful evidence-based strategies and best practices.
